A dental hygienist is a licensed health care professional. Dental hygiene is the science and practice of the recognition, treatment, and prevention of oral diseases. Graduates of the Dental Hygiene program are eligible to work in any number of health care settings such as private dental offices, schools, and nursing homes.
The Dental Hygiene Program (Program) at Austin Community College meets college, state and national requirements. At the national level, the accrediting body is the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA Commission). The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education and its scope encompasses dental programs, advanced dental programs, and allied dental education like dental hygiene. The Program in Dental Hygiene has been granted the accreditation status of approval (without reporting requirements) by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
The CODA will accept comments and complaints about our Program. The Commission will consider only formal, written, signed complaints, unsigned complaints will be considered anonymous complaints , oral complaints will not be considered. Anonymous comments/complaints may be received at any time and will be added to the respective program’s file for evaluation during the program’s next scheduled accreditation site visit. The next program site visit by the Commission is scheduled to occur in 2019. An appropriate complaint is one that directly addresses a program’s compliance with the Commission’s standards, policies and procedures.
